There are buildings around the world, that have naturally adapted to its surrounding and beautified the overall architectural image. Santorini, Greece – had me dreaming for about a year now – truly it is one of the most captivating cities in the world. An island with approximately 15,000 residents, not sure if this is considered as a ‘city’ though.
Nonetheless, the traditional architecture of Santorini is low-lying cubic houses, made of local stone and whitewashed. The materials contrast well with the nature colour scheme, highlighting both the important factors; architectural buildings and nature.
Essentially, Santorini’s residents did not certainly target out to make their island beautiful in the beginning. The city itself is blessed with breathtaking scenery, including variation in the earth’s surface topography, which has arranged the concept into an architectural style that happened to fit perfectly into their settings. Santorini was traditionally a fairly a poor island with fishing as the primary industry, therefore people didn’t have the money to worry about making their island beautiful. The whole production of this architectural style was all an accident, a good luck that turned the island into the most beautiful places on earth.
